The Salem Film Festival Youth & Amateur Competition (SFF-YAC) has been created to showcase the talent of amateur filmmakers of all ages. We want to see your vision on the big screen! Screenings of your work and informational forums will be held during the week prior to the festival as well as at a special award screening during the festival.

YOUTH entries are accepted by students in middle or high school.

AMATEUR entries are those created by filmmakers who are out of high
school, but who still have entry-level filmmaking skills.

SUBMISSION ENTRIES into the Youth & Amateur Competition must fall into one of the following categories:

• Abstract/Artistic - 5 minute maximum entry length
Visual experiments and expressions in audiovisual media
• Music Video - 5 minute maximum entry length
Storytelling through film with original music
• Short Narrative - 10 minute maximum entry length
Creative fiction storytelling
• Non-Fiction - 10 minute maximum entry length
Real-narrative, documentary and journalism

Excerpts of longer productions will be considered.

SCREENINGS & AWARDS
A jury of media professionals and enthusiasts will review and judge all film submissions, rating them for quality content in categories including, but not
limited to: writing, performance, cinematography and editing. Films ranking highest will be awarded Best In Class in each entry category for each entry
level:

• Youth Middle School (grades 6-8)
• Youth High School (grades 9-12)
• Amateur (ages 18-24)
• Amateur (ages 25+)

A collection of the winning films will be awarded prizes and will screen
for the Youth and Amateur program during Salem Film Festival.

72 HOUR CHALLENGE

START TIME: 5PM FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2011
STOP TIME: 5PM MONDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2011

At 5pm on Friday, September 30th, filmmakers received an e-mail with the criteria required to include in their film. This year's requirements were:

genre: Psychological Thriller
character name/persona: Lon or Laney Chaney, retired actor
prop: a pig
one line of dialogue: "It's a picture of me in the mud."

Filmmakers had until 5pm on Monday, October 3rd to submit an original, finished film.
