We offer a competition in both the short film and feature length film categories. This unique competition was established to showcase the creative and inspired work of serious filmmakers, regardless of age, who either live in the Pacific Northwest or who shot on locations in this same area. Official Selections into the competition will be made by the Salem Film Festival programming committee and will be based upon content as well as production qualities and is open to filmmakers hoping to make a significant contribution to the art of film by pursuing a career in filmmaking.

ENTRY RULES:

• Feature Film Competition: Films must be 40 minutes or more in length.
• Short Film Competition: Films must be 39 minutes or less in length.
• Submitting filmmakers must have either lived in the Pacific Northwest during the making of their film or shot on location in the Pacific Northwest.*
• Neither this, nor any previous film by the submitting filmmaker may have been picked up for theatrical or television distribution.
• Film submissions must be non-professional.
• The film cannot have shown in a theatrical setting in Salem or within a 30 mile radius of Salem prior to 10/22/10.
• Film production must have been completed within the 24 months prior to our festival dates.
• There are no age requirements or restrictions for this competition; all filmmakers regardless of age will be treated as equals in the eyes of the festival committee and jury.

Winners will be determined by a combined vote of our Special Jury and by the Film Festival Audience. The winners will be honored in a special Closing Day event at our festival.

*For the purpose of this competition, The Pacific Northwest is defined as Northern California, Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
