2009 SFF YOUTH & AMATEUR PROGRAM: APRIL 13-18

Competition Events General Overview

The Salem Film Festival Youth and Amateur Competition, is a resource for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their talents. The weeklong event will showcase work submitted by youth and amateur filmmakers in The 72 Hour Challenge, Short Narrative, Nonfiction and Abstract/Artistic categories. A competition jury has scored entries in all categories. The highest scoring entries are being screened at The Grand Theater at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 18.

Weeklong Activities
Monday through Thursday, April 13-16
Previews of Youth and Amateur Film Submissions
10am until closing
IKE Box, corner of Cottage and Chemeketa streets
Admission: FREE

Drop in and watch as submissions are looped on multiple screens. Viewers will be invited to vote for their favorites. Votes cast between Monday and Friday will be tallied and the IKE Customer's Choice selection will be announced during the Youth and Amateur Awards Ceremony at The Grand Theater on Saturday.

Youth and Amateur Competition Public Screening
Thursday, April 16, 6:00pm
72 Hour Challenge & Honorable Mention Screening
IKE Box, corner of Cottage and Chemeketa streets
Admission: $5

In addition to the Short Narrative, Nonfiction and Abstract/Artistic categories, youth and amateur groups competed to create an original production in just 72 hours after being given a set of four criteria, which included the genre, a character description, one line of dialogue and a prop. The work of the groups who completed their projects on time will be screened and discussed.

Youth and Amateur Awards Ceremony
Saturday, April 18, 12:00pm
The Grand Theater, 191 High Street NE
Admission: $8

The pinnacle of the competition is certain to be the awards ceremony at The Grand Theater. Finalists will be screened and awarded honors. Scoring tabulations for all participants will be available.

Ticket Information

Each entry submitted to SFF-YAC is entitled to two complimentary tickets for all of the Show Me The Path screening events. Deadline to reserve free tickets is Friday, April 10th. Please send an e-mail to SFFYAC@gmail.com with your name and the titles of your film or films. All tickets for the IKE Box events as well as tickets for the Awards Ceremony will be sold at the door.
