Filmmaker Allie Humenuk in Attendance!
His fascination with creating a visually stunning piece of art from everyday images found in his domestic surroundings has propelled Abelardo Morell as one of America’s most renowned photographers, but it is his elegant, large-scale, black-and-white camera obscura photographs that flip the world
upside down, fusing inside with out, that has turned the art world on its ear. Over a period of seven years, cinematographer Allie Humenuk’s beautifully filmed Shadow Of The House captures Morell’s intriguing artistic process, the tedious aspects and frustration of failed images while peeling away layer after layer of the man himself to reveal the ways his fascinating struggles have reflected in his work. Born in Cuba, Morell and his family fled to America in 1962 and when his parents fiercely object his decision to make a return visit, he is forced to wrestle with identity and loyalties that have shaped his life. Interlaced with striking imagery, this profoundly intimate portrait is an engaging masterpiece.
