What better way to pay tribute to the tireless work of the behind-the-scenes filmmakers whose spark and pizzazz ignites movie magic than with Michael Schroeder’s Man In The Chair. Despite the generations that separate them, a couple of rebellious loners forge a bond based on their mutual love of the cinema, and Cameron (Michael Angarano of TV’s Will and Grace), a volatile teen on a mission to direct, sees an opportune moment in his newfound friendship with Flash, a grousing, long-retired Hollywood gaffer played unflinchingly by magnificent mogul Christopher Plummer. In exchange for payment of cigars and bourbon, Flash agrees to enlist the ostracized has-beens in his retirement community, including an Oscar-winning screenwriter, the splendid M. Emmett Walsh, whose rejuvenated enthusiasm promises to breathe life into Cameron’s project. A sentimental nod to the days of old, the innovative, visual flourishes woven throughout are also a powerful and refreshing tip of the hat to what the future holds.
