“It’s dynamite, the kind of sexy, paranoid, creepily atmospheric picture that invades all your senses at once.” –SALON.COM

This bristling, moody suspense story is the brainchild of Dogma genius Lars von Trier, the first in a trilogy that will employ the same actors and characters in films each produced by a different director. A voyeur employed by Glasgow’s security surveillance company, the cameras mounted on buildings throughout the poverty-stricken North End, the detached and unruffled Jackie (Kate Dickie) scans the city for crime and misconduct. One day she spies the familiar face of Clyde (Tony Curran), someone mysteriously linked to a dark episode in her past, and anxious but composed, she begins to edge her way into his life. Desperate to confront her demons, Jackie’s hardened exterior slowly cracks and peels away, revealing a measured balance between passion and pain. Delving into sensual, intense territory, RED ROAD is a gritty, masterful film that speaks to the risk it takes to forge through our anguish in order to surface on the other side unscathed.
