Showing films created from as far away as Cyprus, Taiwan, Poland, France and Germany to Mexico and the United States, this program gives an all-too infrequent look at films created by both children and adults around the world for a timeless, borderless audience.

This brief portrait of a divided country was created from a workshop of the 2006 Kids for Kids Film Festival. This documentary gives a children’s perspective of political unrest.

A LITTLE WALK
What mysteries lay hidden in the deep grass? For this extremely short animation the author worked for over a year, patiently drawing hundreds of paper sheets.

WHY COWS DON’T FLY
Annually, La Matatena Workshop travels through Mexico teaching filmmaking to at risk kids. Their 2006 production Why Cows Don’t Fly upholds the tradition of kids having fun making something absurd.

STICKS AND STRINGS
Sticks and Strings comes from a student filmmaking class at Atelier AAA in Annecy France and is a simple short of pencil drawings in a delightful homage to street performers.

ANIMOSITY
During a week intensive class at Atelier AAA, four French teenagers worked on this award winning film, designed as a statement against racism. It is a hand drawn fable of tolerance and cooperation and was their first experience with animation.

Pavel lives a tidy quite life, but his horrid downstairs neighbor, Gavel, makes a racket and hunts in the house! This collage film was created by Children’s Film Factory in Poland, where adults act as technical advisors and children write, direct and produce.

SHAWN BOWMAN’s introduction to the film world was through the scrappy and demanding job of a production assistant in NYC, cutting her teeth on dozens of features, music videos and commercials. As a location manager and production coordinator, Bowman worked for prominent directors Griffin Dunne, Fisher Stephens and Spike Jones on independent feature film projects. She has five years experience teaching production and media literacy to at-risk kids in film enrichment programs. For the last three years Bowman has hosted international film festivals bringing remarkable world-class cinema to young people in her community. |
