“…puts its finger on the problem in the best tradition of East European humor, savvy but concrete, gentle but sharp as a knife.” –VARIETY

Certain to keep you chuckling throughout, the question at the heart of this droll and oddly moving festival favorite is whether a defined revolution that has shaped the history of one small Romanian town ever truly took place. On the outskirts of Bucharest, this post-Communist world, explored with a wry sense of absurdity, creates the backdrop for a stunningly simple tale. Sixteen years post-Revolution and only a handful of days before Christmas, a pompous local television host has invited several prominent guests to share their insight and revelations, but, in the end, the only candidates he’s able to scare up are an unlikely retiree moonlighting as Santa Claus and a resolute, alcoholic history professor. Delivered with subtle, deadpan irreverence, this quietly peculiar film, a dogmatic examination of truth, is a reflection of not only the political accounts of 1989 but of the people involved.
